Rugged Bear, a favorite children’s outerwear brand, is partnering with the non-profit organization, Bear Trust International, to educate children in grades K-12 about environmental literacy and conservation issues associated with bears through the subjects of math and science. “We found an organization that would combine our interest in benefiting children and somehow incorporate the essence of Rugged Bear and the idea of living life rugged,” says Eli Yedid, president of Rugged Bear and parent company Cutie Pie Baby. “While their efforts go towards awareness and conservation of the bear species, they also are giving to the youth of America.” A percentage of each Rugged Bear purchase will be donated to this education program, which includes two curriculums for students from K-8 and students from 9-12. The guides feature statistics on bears in the wild from field studies, stories written by top-bear scientists, computer science technology and online capabilities for Bear Trust International students to communicate with each other. Charles Smid and Dr. Melissa Reynolds-Hogland founded this program, which is now used in 15 US states and in some schools in Canada.
