Nancy Nord, acting chair of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, stepped down last week. Fellow commissioner Thomas Moore takes over the position today and will serve in the role until a new chairman is confirmed by the Senate. Nord said she plans to remain a commissioner until the end of her term in 2012.

Earlier this month, President Barack Obama nominated Inez Moore Tenenbaum, the former education superintendent in South Carolina, to become chair of the commission. He also nominated Robert Adler, a former lawyer and CPSC adviser, as a new commissioner. Visit www.cpsc.gov.
