When Austin Miller returned to the United States after working as a product designer with a job creation program in Bangladesh, he had an idea to continue helping provide employment for the poor of the country by distributing their handmade products here in North America. Thus, in 2010, Kahiniwalla was born. Now the company has expanded its portfolio of Fair Trade products to offer Pebble, a line of hand-knit and crocheted toys, hats and blankets, new to the U.S. in 2014.

Made in rural Bangladesh using fresh colors and European design, each piece offers heirloom quality and a safe, tactile experience for babies and young children. “Pebble products are made by a Fair Trade organization, giving the dignity of a job to more than 5,000 impoverished women in Bangladesh,” says Miller, adding that the women earn 25 percent more than the local minimum wage and are able to work near their children. Hats range in size from 0-6 months to 1-2 years and wholesale prices range from $3 to $48.
