Wayne, N.J.-based Toys “R” Us is addressing the recession with the nationwide addition of $1-$2-$3 Fun! shop-in-shop boutiques near the entrances of its stores, putting affordable items front and center. Each shop contains roughly 100 products priced at $1, $2 or $3, ranging from games and toys to dress-up gear, musical instruments, art supplies and party favors.

Karen Dodge, U.S. senior vice president and chief merchandising officer, said these shops are a natural extension of the company’;s assortment, which caters to every budget. “We believe parents will appreciate the exceptional values found in our $1-$2-$3 Fun! shops, and kids will delight in the unique collection of great playthings,” she added.
