Straight Up

Stand up and take note: The vertical
stripe is back! Reminiscent of referee
uniforms and candy shop awnings, the
classic print is lining up to be tall
competition for its better-known cousin,
the Breton stripe. Taking their cues from
the retro-inspired runways of Fall ’14,
children’s designers are bringing the ’60s
staple to everything from dandy suits
to sleek sweats that will help little ones
earn their fashion stripes. Bold black and
white pairings and bright colors elevate
the simplest of silhouettes, lending
boxy blazers and billowing dresses
a mod sensibility. Whether you
go graphic with wide stripes, or
sweet with finer lines in pastel
colors, this season’s offerings are
sure to get sales moving in the right
direction. —Tara Anne Dalbow
