Pitti Bimbo 87 Recap: Not Your Mother’s Trade Show

Pitti Immagine Bimbo captures the colorful experience of childhood with lively decor, fun events and, of course, fabulous fashion.

FLORENCE, ITALY: Beautifully reflecting the colorful imaginations of children, lifestyler Sergio Colantuoni helped bring the 87th edition of Pitti Immagine Bimbo to life with his kaleidoscopic concept P.O.P (Pitti Optical Power). Wiggling lines and playful polka dots doused in bold hues energized attendees, showcased by vibrant signage, striking installations and a new centrally located bar/lounge area designed with Technicolor appeal.

At the end of the three-day fair, running from June 21-23, more than 5,350 buyers had attended with the total number of visitors reaching 10,000. The ranking of the fair’s top 15 reference markets once again saw Russia in the lead (213 buyers), followed by Spain (157), Germany (155), United Kingdom (117), China (102), Belgium (90), Netherlands (88), Turkey (103), France (76), Japan (63), Greece (58), Ukraine (52), Poland (47), United States (41) and Switzerland (39).

“There was a very positive atmosphere in the Fortezza,” says Raffaello Napoleone, CEO of Pitti Immagine, noting the ever-increasing interest in Pitti’s variety of presentations and events. (Pro Tip: I found the PittiSmart app to be very helpful for keeping track of all the special events taking place at the Fortezza da Basso, the show’s principal location, as well as around the city itself.)

As usual, several fashion shows were hosted at Sala della Ronda including a collection of Spanish labels in the Children’s Fashion from Spain runway, a luxurious mix of modern playwear and dresswear from Stefania’s children’s line, experimental materials and silhouettes from KidzFizz, as well as luxury tailoring presented by brands in the Apartment section.

The new bar/lounge area also doubled as a catwalk for an athleisure-themed presentation by select #ActiveLab brands, including performances from talented young dancers. The show featured brands like Bang Bang Copenhagen, Barn of Monkeys, Carlijnq, Jooseph’s and Gardner and the Gang, to name a few.

Monnalisa held an elegant vintage garden party themed “The Fabulous Fifties” to display its Spring/Summer 2019 bloom-filled collection in the Torrigiani Gardens. Plus, on the same day, Guess Kids celebrated the launch of the capsule collection Guess x “Be Miraculous” in its Florence store with an exclusive live performance by Gaia Gozzi, the voice of the Italian soundtrack from the animated series Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir.

To close the show, attendees and exhibitors met at the Pitti P.O.P. Party at the Villa di Maiano, exploding with lively music, lovely decorations, and delicious food and cocktails for all to enjoy.
