Industry charity Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) will distribute 2,500 new toys recently donated by the Toy Industry Foundation to Haitian children affected by the earthquake. The toys, valued at $30,000, will provide some comfort to kids in orphanages, schools and refugee camps and shelters.

“One of the most disturbing aspects of a natural disaster of this scale is the terror and uncertainty that it leaves behind in the surviving children,” noted Jean Butler, executive director of the nonprofit Toy Industry Foundation. “Even a brief respite of play can provide some hope that life will be better in the future.”

K.I.D.S. has worked in Haiti since 1995, providing apparel, shoes, toys and books to children in need. President Janice Weinman said the recent toy donations will be distributed through 18 partner agencies in Haiti. Visit www.kidsdonations.org and www.toyindustryfoundation.org.
